As part of the Easter Story, Jesus Christ was arrested and taken before the high priests so they could put on a show trial before turning Him over to the Romans to be put to death.

The scriptures say that the high priests were seeking witnesses to gain evidence to justify voting to have Him killed by the Romans.

None of the witnesses could really agree with each other to have sufficient evidence to convict, so the high priests questioned Jesus about these false or misstated accusations and Jesus “held his peace”.

It occurs to me that there are several different meanings of peace.

I think we can all hold our peace when we are facing difficult challenges or doing something that we know to be right and are falsely accused or unfairly judged for our actions.

When times get tough or difficult we can find our inner peace, the part of us that knows we are doing the right thing, and remain peaceful because we are standing in our strength.

Jesus held his peace in front of the high priests.  His inner peace was that he was doing his Father’s will and nothing his accusers could say or do would change that.  He was able to see what was in front of Him, know what was inside of Him, and remain at peace.

So, the next time you are facing a difficult time and people do not support or believe in what you are doing, go inside yourself.  Check in with your heart and see if you are doing the right thing.

If you are doing the right thing, you can hold on to your peace and be peaceful.  No matter what else is going on around you.
